Hi, welcome to my blog! My name is Paul.
I don’t know how you found your way here, but I am very happy that you did.
A bit about myself:
I am 22 years old. I have spent most of the past few years either studying, cycling or working online.
When I was growing up, I absolutely loved track and cross country running. It used to be my dream to be a professional runner like Mo Farah and Galen Rupp. However, I started battling with a lot of injuries. The injuries came one after the other and I became increasingly despondent. After years of struggling through unsuccessful running seasons, I decided it was time to look for something else. That is how I found cycling.
I bought my first ever road bike at the age of 17. I did not realize at the time how much it would change my life for the better. Immediately, I stopped looking at my training as something I “need” to do and instead as something I WANT to do. I started going on long rides with my friends on the weekend. It allowed me to explore areas of my own town I never even knew existed!
After finishing high school I departed for Thailand to work as an English teacher. I worked in Thailand and Vietnam that year. It was a good experience, but not without its ups and downs. I grew a lot from it and was able to find my own feet without relying on my parents for financial or emotional support.
I was also fortunate enough to go on a bicycle tour in Europe. It was a 3 month trip and for much of it I was following the Tour de France and later the Vuelta Espana bicycle race. I sometimes find myself day dreaming about my time in Europe. It was really something special. Sometimes I look at pictures I took while cycling through the French Alps and it is hard to believe I was there.
Why Rider’s Reel?
I started this blog because I was in desperate need of a platform to vent anything and everything that pops into my head! Since cycling is such a big part of my life, it should go without saying that it will be a big part of this blog. The name of the blog should have given that away! With that said, I will also write about other things that interest me.
I can honestly say I have no end goal in mind when it comes to this site and I do not care if I make money from it or not. I just want to share things that I am passionate about and that I hope will provide value to someone reading it. Hopefully that someone is you!
