Banana Smoothie Recipe

A fruit smoothie is just about my favorite way to start the day. There is nothing that leaves you feeling as light and energized as a meal full of fruit. Banana smoothies are my favorite because bananas are filled with calories. More importantly they are filled with carbohydrate calories!

Carbohydrates are the most important fuel source for human beings. They are the focus of every one of my meals, but even more so for breakfast. The more active you are, the more carbohydrates you will need. So, it goes without saying that you will need plenty of carbs if you are cycling or running a lot. My biggest problem at the moment is sourcing good quality bananas. I got a little too used to living in Thailand, because when I returned to South Africa the bananas here tasted like soap! I am not really complaining. I am grateful to have food to begin with, I just thought it was an interesting comparison.

There is no need to overcomplicate things. I am not an Instagram food model, who takes 30 minutes to decorate a smoothie bowl only to mash it up and eat it a second later. I also do not add any superfood or fancy seeds and so forth to my smoothies. This is it:

6-10 Bananas (spotty ripe)

50-100g of white table sugar

100ml of soy or almond milk

As much water as needed to achieve the desired consistency

I know what you are thinking. That is a lot of sugar! It is. Every cell in the human body runs on sugar. I add sugar to most of my fruit meals because of how hard it is to source good quality, sweet tasting fruit. If it makes you feel better you can replace the white table sugar with brown sugar, coconut sugar or maple syrup.

6-10 Bananas (spotty ripe)

50-100g of white table sugar

100ml of soy or almond milk

As much water as needed to achieve the desired consistency

Mix in 5g of chia seeds

Sprinkle cinnamon on top

There you have it. A smoothie that gives you anywhere between 800 – 1400 calories in a meal and takes under 5 MINUTES to prepare. Perfect for if you live a busy life, which most of us do.
